Will I Receive a Form 1099 as a US-Based Contractor?

What is a Form 1099?
Form 1099 is a U.S. tax reporting document used to report income paid to independent contractors and other non-employee workers. It is typically issued by the paying entity when certain payment thresholds are met during the tax year.

Does Remote People issue Form 1099?
No. U.S. Form 1099 will not be issued by Remote People for contractor payments.

This is because your contractor agreement and payments are processed through Remote People's Singapore entity. Form 1099 is a U.S. tax reporting document that applies specifically to payments made by U.S.-based entities under U.S. tax reporting rules.

Since your contract is not with a U.S. entity and your payments are not made through a U.S. reporting structure, a Form 1099 does not apply.

What documentation can Remote People provide instead?
Remote People can provide a detailed payment summary showing the total amounts paid to you during the calendar year. This document can be used for your personal tax filing and record-keeping purposes.

To request a payment summary, please contact the Support team at support@remotepeople.com.

Do I still need to report this income on my US tax return?
Yes. Regardless of whether a Form 1099 is issued, U.S. taxpayers are required to report all income earned — including payments received from non-U.S. entities — on their federal and state tax returns.

We recommend consulting a qualified tax professional to understand your specific reporting obligations.
