What are the public holiday entitlements in Latvia?

Employees in Latvia are entitled to 14 public holidays per year. These are recognized national holidays and are granted as paid days off.


Public holidays in 2025:

  • January 1 – New Year’s Day

  • April 18 – Good Friday

  • April 21 – Easter Monday

  • May 1 – Labor Day

  • May 4 – Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia (observed on Monday if it falls on a weekend)

  • May 11 – Mother’s Day (not a statutory public holiday)

  • June 8 – Pentecost (not a statutory public holiday)

  • June 23 – Midsummer Day (Līgo Day)

  • June 24 – St. John’s Day (Jāņi Day)

  • November 18 – Day of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia

  • December 24–26 – Christmas holidays (Winter Solstice)

  • December 31 – New Year’s Eve


Note:

  • If a public holiday falls on a weekend, no additional day off is granted, except for May 4, which may be moved to the following Monday.

  • Certain days, such as Mother’s Day, Pentecost, and New Year’s Eve, are commonly observed but are not official public holidays with guaranteed paid leave.
