Why and when are Medical Checkups mandatory in Taiwan?

In Taiwan, employers are legally required to provide regular health checkups for employees as part of their obligations under the Labor Health Protection Rules. These checkups are designed to monitor employee health and ensure workplace safety.

According to Article 17, the frequency of mandatory health checkups depends on the employee’s age:

  • Under 40 years old: Every 5 years.
  • Ages 40 to 65: Every 3 years.
  • Over 65 years old: Every 3 years.

Health checkups become mandatory if employees cannot provide proof of a previous checkup within the required period. If proof is submitted, employees may be exempt from the checkup.

Horizons requires all new joining employees during the onboarding process to provide either valid proof of a previous medical checkup or to complete a new medical checkup.

To identify a suitable location employees can refer to the official website of the government of Taiwan: hrpts.osha.gov.tw (Link only accessible from within Taiwan).

Express check-ups can be completed as quickly as 3 business days, while the regular process can take 5 business days.

All expenses incurred during the medical checkup will be covered by the client and added as non-recurring payment on the platform. The reimbursement will be completed with the regular payroll.

These requirements help maintain legal compliance and ensure employee health and safety. For more information, refer to the official regulations here.
