What are the paid and unpaid leaves in Taiwan?

In Taiwan, employees are entitled to various types of paid and unpaid leave, in accordance with the Labor Standards Act


Paid Leave

  1. Maternity Leave (Pregnancy Leave)
    Female employees are entitled to 8 weeks of maternity leave, which includes 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after childbirth. This leave is fully paid by the employer, provided the employee has been employed for at least 6 months before the start of her maternity leave.

  2. Paternity Leave (Second Parent)
    Male employees are entitled to 7 days of paid paternity leave following the birth of their child. This leave is meant to support fathers during the early days of their child’s life.

  3. Marriage Leave
    Employees are entitled to 8 days of paid marriage leave in the event of their marriage.

  4. Bereavement Leave
    In the unfortunate event of a death in the employee’s family, the following paid bereavement leave applies:

    • 8 days for the death of parents or spouse

    • 6 days for the death of grandparents or children

    • 3 days for the death of great-grandparents or siblings


Unpaid Leave

  1. Parental Leave
    Employees are entitled to up to 2 years of unpaid parental leave after 6 months of employment. This leave is available for employees to take care of their children under the age of 3.
