What are the Paid and Unpaid Leaves in Thailand?

In Thailand, employees are entitled to various types of leave, including both paid and unpaid leave.


Paid Leave

  1. Maternity/Pregnancy Leave

    • Duration: Up to 98 days
    • Payment: The first 45 days are paid by the employer, and the remaining leave is covered by social security. This leave supports employees during and after childbirth to ensure adequate recovery and bonding time.
  2. Sterilization Leave

    • Duration: As specified by the medical certificate
    • Payment: Paid by the employer
    • Source: Section 59, Labour Protection Act. This leave provides employees with time off for sterilization procedures, with compensation provided by the employer based on medical necessity.
  3. Leave for Necessary Business

    • Duration: Up to 3 days
    • Payment: Paid by the employer
    • This leave allows employees to attend to personal business or urgent matters, ensuring they are not financially penalized for such absences.
  4. Military Service Leave

    • Duration: Up to 60 days
    • Payment: Paid by the employer
    • This leave accommodates employees fulfilling mandatory military service obligations, ensuring they receive their regular pay during their absence.
  5. Leave for Training or Knowledge and Skill Development

    • Payment: Paid according to the rules set by Ministerial Regulations
    • This leave is available for employees participating in training programs or skill development activities, supporting continuous learning and professional growth.


Unpaid Leave

  • Unpaid Leave: Employees may request unpaid leave for various personal reasons, subject to the employer's approval. The specific terms and conditions for unpaid leave are typically outlined in the company's leave policy.
