What are the Paid and Unpaid Leaves in Armenia?

In addition to annual and sick leave, Armenian labor laws provide various types of paid and unpaid leave for specific circumstances. Here's an overview of other leave entitlements:


Paid Leave

  • Maternity/Pregnancy Leave: Women are entitled to 140 days of paid leave, with 70 days before birth and 70 days after.
  • Adoption Leave: Employees who adopt a child are entitled to 70 days of paid leave following the adoption.
  • Educational Leave: Employees taking exams are granted 3 days of paid leave.
  • Leave for State or Public Duties: Employees receive paid leave to fulfill obligations such as:
    • Voting,
    • Participation in court proceedings,
    • Donating blood or organs.
  • Trade Union Leave: Employees involved in trade unions are allowed up to 6 days of paid leave per year for union activities.


Unpaid Leave

  • Paternity Leave: The second parent is entitled to up to 2 months of unpaid leave following the birth of a child.
  • Childcare Leave: Caregivers can take unpaid leave for up to 3 years to care for a child under the age of 3.
  • Care for a Sick Relative: Employees can take up to 30 days of unpaid leave per year to care for a seriously ill family member.
  • Marriage Leave: Employees are allowed 3 days of unpaid leave for their wedding.
  • Funeral Leave: In the event of the death of a loved one, employees can take 3 days of unpaid leave.
  • Leave for Civil Servants: Civil servants are entitled to 30 days of unpaid leave per year.
  • Military Service: Contracts are suspended for the entire duration of military service, allowing employees to serve without risking their employment.
  • Temporary Incapacity to Work: Employees may take unpaid leave for up to 120 days if they are temporarily unable to work due to health reasons.


These provisions ensure that employees have access to time off for both personal and professional obligations, with options for paid and unpaid leave depending on the situation.
