What are the Leave Entitlements in Mozambique?

Employees in Mozambique are entitled to various forms of paid leave, designed to support their personal and health needs. 


1. Annual Leave

  • 1st Year of Employment:
    • Minimum: 12 days of annual leave (1 day accrued per month).
  • 2nd Year of Employment:
    • Minimum: 30 days of annual leave.
    • Previous Entitlement: Before February 21, 2024, employees were entitled to 24 days.
  • From the 3rd Year Onwards:
    • Minimum: 30 days of annual leave.
  • Accrual:
    • Leave is pro-rated during the first two years of employment.
    • Any accrued leave may be carried over with the employer’s approval.


2. Sick Leave

  • Paid Sick Leave:
    • Up to 15 continuous days or 5 non-consecutive days.
  • Extended Sick Leave:
    • After 15 days, employers may refer the employee to a health board to evaluate their capacity to continue working.


3. Other Paid Leave

  • Marriage:
    • 5 days of paid leave.
  • Death of a Close Family Member:
    • 5 days of paid leave.
