What are the Leave Entitlements in Mozambique?
Employees in Mozambique are entitled to various forms of paid leave, designed to support their personal and health needs.
1. Annual Leave
- 1st Year of Employment:
- Minimum: 12 days of annual leave (1 day accrued per month).
- 2nd Year of Employment:
- Minimum: 30 days of annual leave.
- Previous Entitlement: Before February 21, 2024, employees were entitled to 24 days.
- From the 3rd Year Onwards:
- Minimum: 30 days of annual leave.
- Accrual:
- Leave is pro-rated during the first two years of employment.
- Any accrued leave may be carried over with the employer’s approval.
2. Sick Leave
- Paid Sick Leave:
- Up to 15 continuous days or 5 non-consecutive days.
- Extended Sick Leave:
- After 15 days, employers may refer the employee to a health board to evaluate their capacity to continue working.
3. Other Paid Leave
- Marriage:
- 5 days of paid leave.
- Death of a Close Family Member:
- 5 days of paid leave.
