What is the standard Employment Agreement offered in Mozambique?

Unlimited (Indefinite) Employment Agreement

  • Standard Offering: The default employment agreement provided by Horizons is an unlimited (indefinite) contract. This means that all employments are considered indefinite and are not constrained by a fixed term.

  • Types of Employment:

    • The indefinite contract is available for both full-time and part-time positions, offering stability and accommodating various working arrangements.


Fixed-Term Agreements: Rarely Possible

  • Conditions for Fixed-Term Agreements: Fixed-term contracts are rarely offered and are only available under specific circumstances. If a fixed-term agreement is not explicitly justified, it will automatically be deemed an indefinite contract.

  • Duration and Renewal:

    • Maximum Duration: Fixed-term contracts can last up to 2 years.
    • Renewal Limit: They can be renewed up to 2 times.
  • Cost of Early Termination:

    • Mandatory Severance: If a fixed-term contract is terminated early without serious justification, the employee is entitled to be paid all outstanding wages and benefits up to the original expiration date of the contract.
    • No Early Termination: Termination before the contract's expiration is not allowed unless there is a seriously justified reason. If terminated early, the employer must pay the full amount due until the contract’s original end date.
  • Types of Employment:

    • Fixed-term contracts are also available for both full-time and part-time roles under the conditions mentioned.
