What are the sick leave policies for employees in Cyprus?

Employees must notify their line manager and Horizons of their absence no later than the second day of sickness and provide a medical certificate.

To be eligible for sick leave benefits, employees must have contributed to the social insurance fund for at least 26 weeks within the last 52 weeks.

Social Insurance Services pay 70% of the employee’s salary (calculated based on the best 26 weeks of the last 52 weeks) from the 3rd day up to 156 days of sick leave. This period may be extended by an additional 156 days if the employee qualifies for an incapacity pension.

There is a 3-day waiting period during which no compensation is paid.

Horizons does not supplement sick leave pay beyond the statutory benefit unless otherwise agreed.
