How is the Sick Leave Payment calculated in Armenia? Who pays for it?
In Armenia, employees are entitled to paid sick leave if they are unable to work due to illness or injury. Sick leave payments are calculated based on specific guidelines set out by Armenian labor laws. Employees must provide a medical certificate to their employer to qualify for sick leave benefits.
Sick Leave Payment Calculation
The payment for sick leave is determined using the employee's average daily wage, which is calculated similarly to annual leave payments. Here’s how the calculation is done:
Calculate the Average Daily Wage:
- Total earnings (including salary and bonuses) over the past 12 months ÷ Number of working days during that period.
Determine the Total Sick Leave Payment:
- Average daily wage × Number of sick leave days.
For instance, if an employee’s average daily wage is 8,000 AMD and they take 5 days of sick leave, the total payment would be 40,000 AMD. This ensures that employees receive compensation for their time off due to illness without experiencing financial loss.
Who Pays for Sick Leave?
- First 5 Days: The employer is responsible for paying sick leave for the first 5 days of the employee’s absence.
- Beyond 5 Days: After the initial 5 days, the payment for sick leave is covered by the State Social Security Service.
This system ensures that employees receive financial support for both short-term and extended periods of illness. By dividing the responsibility between the employer and the State Social Security Service, the system helps provide stability and support for employees during their recovery.
