TABLE OF CONTENTS

In Armenia, sick leave and maternity leave are managed electronicaly, by the State Revenue Committee, the Ministry of Health, and the Unified Social Service to streamline and digitize the process of temporary disability documentation and allowance payments.

Sick Leave Policy Overview in Armenia

  • There is no mandatory paid sick leave: Employers are not legally required to offer paid sick leave.
  • Unpaid sick leave: Employees may take up to 120 days of unpaid sick leave.
  • After 120 days, if the employee is still unable to return to work, the employer has the right to terminate the employment agreement.
  • A medical certificate is required for absences longer than 1 day.

How to submit a Sick Leave

  • All sick leave and maternity leave certificates are issued and closed electronically by the medical institution.
  • It is your responsibility as an employee to ensure that your medical provider closes your sick leave bulletin in the system once your leave ends.

Automatic Data Sharing

  • Once your bulletin is closed, the data is automatically sent to:
    • Horizons
    • Relevant state authorities for allowance calculation

To ensure accurate payroll processing and proper internal recordkeeping, it is still mandatory to submit your sick leave days through the Horizons platform. Please follow the steps outlined in the guide How to apply for time off & sick leave? to complete your submission.

How Payments Work

  • Days 1–7 of sick leave: Paid by your employer, based on the state’s calculation.
  • From Day 8 onward: Paid by the state.
  • Maternity leave: Paid entirely by the state.

Important: If any corrections are made to your data, a recalculation of your allowance will be triggered.
