What are the Sick Leave policies in Vietnam?

In Vietnam, employees are entitled to take time off work when ill, with the assurance of receiving social insurance benefits. This sick leave policy ensures that employees can recover without worrying about job security or financial instability.

Sick Leave Entitlement

The number of sick leave days employees are entitled to depends on the length of time they have contributed to social insurance:

  • 30 days per year if social insurance premiums have been paid for less than 15 years.
  • 40 days per year if social insurance premiums have been paid for 15 to 30 years.
  • 60 days per year if social insurance premiums have been paid for more than 30 years.

Sick Leave Payment

During sick leave, employees do not receive their regular salary. Instead, they are entitled to receive 75% of their monthly insured salary through social insurance for each day of sick leave.

Important Notes on Sick Leave

  • Medical Certificate: Employees must provide a medical certificate after one day of absence to be eligible for sick leave benefits.
