Malta has a unique structure for statutory bonuses and allowances. While there are no mandatory general allowances, certain bonuses must be paid throughout the year to all employees, including part-time workers on a pro-rata basis.


 

Mandatory Bonuses & Allowances

1. Weekly Allowance

  • Amount: €121.16
  • Paid Twice a Year:
    • March (for work between October–March)
    • September (for work between April–September)
  • Calculation:
    • €4.66 per week worked
    • Pro-rated for employees who worked part of the period

This allowance is mandatory for all employees, including part-time workers.



2. Statutory Bonus

  • Amount: €135.10
  • Paid Twice a Year:
    • June (for work between January–June)
    • December (for work between July–December)
  • Calculation:
    • €0.74 per calendar day (including weekends)

Home Office Allowances

Employers are required to support remote work by:

  • Providing equipment (e.g., laptop, software)
  • Reimbursing communication costsrelated to work-from-home:
    • Internet
    • Phone


Note: Utilities (e.g., electricity, water) are not reimbursed.
