Malta has a unique structure for statutory bonuses and allowances. While there are no mandatory general allowances, certain bonuses must be paid throughout the year to all employees, including part-time workers on a pro-rata basis.
Mandatory Bonuses & Allowances
1. Weekly Allowance
- Amount: €121.16
- Paid Twice a Year:
- March (for work between October–March)
- September (for work between April–September)
- Calculation:
- €4.66 per week worked
- Pro-rated for employees who worked part of the period
This allowance is mandatory for all employees, including part-time workers.
2. Statutory Bonus
- Amount: €135.10
- Paid Twice a Year:
- June (for work between January–June)
- December (for work between July–December)
- Calculation:
- €0.74 per calendar day (including weekends)
