TABLE OF CONTENTS
In Belgium, your entitlement to paid legal holidays is based on the number of days you worked during the previous calendar year, known as the “vacation service year.” When you change employers, your new employer does not automatically know how many vacation days you are still entitled to. That’s where the vacation certificate comes in.
What Is a Vacation Certificate?
A vacation certificate (vakantieattest in Dutch / certificat de vacances in French) is an official document issued by your previous employer when you leave a job. It includes:
- The number of vacation days already taken during the current year
- The number of remaining vacation days you are still entitled to
- Whether any vacation pay has already been paid out
Why You Need to Submit It
To ensure your vacation balance and allowance are calculated correctly, you must provide this certificate to your new employer. At Horizons, we use this information to:
- Accurately record your remaining vacation days
- Ensure correct processing of vacation pay in the payroll system
- Stay compliant with Belgian labor regulations
What You Need to Do
We kindly request that you share your vacation certificate with us as soon as possible after joining Horizons. This will help us:
- Avoid delays in payroll processing
- Ensure your leave records are up to date
- Prevent any discrepancies in your vacation entitlements
