Understanding Job Titles for Employees in Italy
Modified on: Fri, 20 Mar, 2026 at 6:24 PM
Why are job titles in Italy different from my actual role?
Due to Italian legislation and the structure of Remote People's local entity, all employees in Italy are employed under a project-based framework on behalf of the client company. As a result, the job titles that can be used in employment contracts are limited to a specific set defined by the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CCNL) and company structure.
Available Job Titles
The following job titles are available for use in Italian employment contracts:
• (XXX) Junior Project Manager
• (XXX) Project Manager
• (XXX) Senior Project Manager
• (XXX) Project Director
• (XXX) Junior Consultant
• (XXX) Consultant
• (XXX) Senior Consultant
The prefix (XXX) represents the functional area — for example: Sales Project Manager, Engineering Senior Consultant, Marketing Junior Project Manager, etc.
Can I use my real job title externally?
Yes. While the employment contract must use one of the titles listed above for legal and compliance purposes, employees are free to use their preferred "real" job title externally — for example, on:
• LinkedIn profiles
• Business cards
• Email signatures
• Other professional platforms and communications
The contractual title is a legal requirement and does not affect the employee's actual day-to-day role, responsibilities, or seniority within the client organisation.
Why does this apply?
This requirement exists because Italian labour law requires employment contracts to align with the classifications defined in the applicable national collective bargaining agreement (CCNL). The project-based titles listed above are the classifications available under the CCNL that applies to Remote People's Italian entity.
