What is the minimum wage in Romania?

As of January 1, 2025, the gross minimum monthly wage in Romania is RON 4,050, reflecting a 9.46% increase from the previous RON 3,700. This adjustment aligns Romania's minimum wage with the European Union's directive, positioning it at 47% of the average European wage.

The gross hourly rate, based on a standard work month of 165.334 hours, is approximately RON 24.50.

Employees earning the minimum wage may also benefit from a tax exemption on the first RON 300 of their salary, depending on applicable tax policies.


It's important to note that sector-specific minimum wages exist:

  • Agricultural and Food Industry: RON 4,050 per month.

  • Construction Sector: RON 4,582 per month.

Employers must ensure compliance with these wage standards to meet legal obligations.
