What is the SafetyWing card and how does it work?

The SafetyWing card is a convenient new payment option that allows employees to pay for eligible day-to-day healthcare expenses without needing to front the cost and wait for reimbursement. It functions like any other MasterCard debit card and can be used at healthcare providers, pharmacies, and testing labs around the world that accept MasterCard.

Instead of paying out of pocket for smaller expenses, you can now swipe, insert, or tap your SafetyWing card for health-related costs under US$150.

Why is this card important?

SafetyWing’s health insurance does not rely on a traditional network, meaning employees are free to visit any public or private doctor, clinic, or hospital. Previously, for non-emergency treatments under US$250, employees had to pay upfront and file a claim for reimbursement, which typically takes 3–5 business days.

The SafetyWing card removes that barrier by enabling direct payments from US$0 to US$150, helping you access care more easily and without out-of-pocket delays.

Where can I use the card?

You can use your SafetyWing card at any healthcare provider, pharmacy, or lab that accepts MasterCard debit payments—anywhere in the world.

How do I use my card?

  1. Once you opt in, your card will arrive in approximately 1–3 weeks, depending on your location.

  2. Activate your card using the instructions included in your welcome packet.

  3. Begin using it immediately for eligible healthcare expenses covered under your Remote Health policy.

  4. Be sure to collect supporting documents from the provider, such as medical reports, prescriptions, and itemized invoices.

  5. Complete the auto-generated claim in your SafetyWing dashboard to recharge your card for future use.

Who is eligible for the SafetyWing card?

The SafetyWing card is only available to employees currently enrolled in a SafetyWing Remote Health plan. If you're not enrolled but would like to be, please speak with your line manager to explore your options.
