What is the severance policy in Greece?
In Greece, severance pay applies to both unlimited contracts and fixed-term contracts, and the amount depends on the employee's length of service.
Standard Severance (Dismissal with Notice)
0 to 1 year of employment: No severance pay
1 to 4 years of employment: 1 month’s salary
4 to 6 years of employment: 1.5 months' salary
6 to 8 years of employment: 2 months' salary
8 to 10 years of employment: 2.5 months' salary
Above 10 years of employment: +0.5 month per additional year, up to a maximum of 12 months.
Severance for Dismissal Without Notice
0 to 1 year of employment: No severance pay
1 to 4 years of employment: 2 months' salary
4 to 6 years of employment: 3 months' salary
6 to 8 years of employment: 4 months' salary
8 to 10 years of employment: 5 months' salary
Above 10 years of employment: +1 month per additional year, up to a maximum of 12 months.
Important Notes:
No severance is provided for extraordinary termination (dismissal for serious reasons).
If a fixed-term employee is dismissed without an important reason, severance pay will be based on the remaining salary until the expiration of the contract.
Important Reminder:
Before initiating any dismissal or severance process, it must be addressed with Horizons first, as the legal Employer of Record (EOR). This ensures compliance with local labor laws and proper handling of the termination process.
