What are the annual leave entitlements in Greece?

In Greece, annual leave is a legal right provided to all employees, and the entitlement increases with years of service.

  • Minimum entitlement (first year):
Employees are entitled to a minimum of 20 days of paid annual leave in their first year of employment. This can be increased by the employer at their discretion.

  • Second year of service:
The entitlement increases to 21 days of annual leave.

  • Third year of service:
Employees are entitled to 22 days of annual leave from their third year onward.

  • From 10 years of service (with the same employer) or 12 years of total professional service:
The entitlement increases to 25 days of annual leave.

  • From 25 years of service:
Employees are entitled to 26 days of annual leave after reaching 25 years of service.

  • Leave usage:
Annual leave must be taken in full days; half days cannot be requested.

Accrual:

  • First year of service: Annual leave is pro-rated based on the length of service in the first year.

  • From second year onward: Employees are entitled to the full number of days according to their length of service.

Carrying over annual leave:

  • Employees are allowed to carry over unused leave to the following year, but it must be used by 31 March of the following year. Unused leave after this date may not be carried over.
