What is the standard employment agreement Horizons offers in Hong Kong?

In Hong Kong, Horizons uses a standard open-ended employment agreement, which reflects local employment practices and legal expectations under the Employment Ordinance (Cap. 57).

Why Open-Ended Employment Is Standard

  • All employment agreements in Hong Kong are considered continuous by default unless clearly stated otherwise.

  • Horizons’ standard agreement follows this norm by using a permanent (unlimited) employment contract, which ensures compliance and avoids misclassification issues.

Fixed-Term Contracts Are Not Common or Recommended

  • Fixed-term employment agreements are not standard in Hong Kong and are generally discouraged.

  • Even if a fixed term is stated, the law may still treat the contract as continuous, especially if it is renewed or extended.

  • There are no significant legal advantages to using fixed-term contracts, and they may create unnecessary complications for both employers and employees.
