What happens when public holidays fall on a Saturday in Poland?

In Poland, when a public holiday falls on a Saturday, employees working a Monday to Friday schedule are entitled to a compensatory day off. This article explains how public holidays in 2025 such as May 3rd (Constitution Day) and November 1st (All Saints’ Day) are treated when they fall on a Saturday.

Public Holidays and Compensatory Time Off

According to Polish Labor Law (Article 130 § 2), employees are entitled to a compensatory day off when a public holiday falls on a Saturday. This day off must be granted within the same settlement period, typically within the same month.

Horizons encourages employees to take this compensatory day off on the following Monday, or another workday within the same month. If employees wish to take the day off on a different date, they must request approval from their direct line manager.

May 3rd (Constitution Day) – 2025

In 2025, May 3rd (Constitution Day) falls on a Saturday. Employees working Monday–Friday are entitled to a compensatory day off, and Horizons encourages taking Monday, May 5th, 2025. If an alternative day is needed, approval should be sought from the direct line manager.

November 1st (All Saints’ Day) – 2025

Similarly, All Saints’ Day (November 1st) falls on a Saturday in 2025. Employees will receive a compensatory day off, and we encourage taking the following Monday (November 3rd) or another day within the same month. Any exceptions should be discussed with the direct line manager.

Payroll Impact

Please note that the compensatory day off does not impact payroll. Employees will be paid as usual, and the compensatory day will be accounted for in the same settlement period. Horizons will ensure that payroll remains consistent and compliant with Polish labor laws.
