What types of Employment Agreements does Horizons offer in Egypt?
Horizons offers two main types of employment agreements in Egypt: Unlimited and Fixed-term contracts. Each contract type has distinct features and benefits depending on the needs of both the employer and the employee.
Unlimited Employment Contract
This is the most common and standard type of employment agreement offered by Horizons.
- Duration: The contract does not have a fixed end date, allowing for long-term employment.
- Termination: It is more difficult to terminate compared to fixed-term contracts. Employers must follow a detailed procedure for dismissal, which includes implementing a performance improvement plan before notifying the employee of termination. Additionally, mutual termination requires the employee's agreement.
- Probation Period: A probation period is recommended, allowing both parties to evaluate the working relationship.
- Possible for Full-time & Part-time: This type of contract can apply to both full-time and part-time positions.
- Safeguards in Place: Employees are generally entitled to more job security under this contract type, with stricter rules around dismissal.
Fixed-term Employment Contract
This type of contract is offered for a set period, usually with a defined end date.
- Duration: The contract can last up to 1 year. While there is no statutory limit on the duration, Horizons typically offers contracts with a maximum of 1 year.
- Renewals: Fixed-term contracts can be renewed as needed, with no limit on the number of times the contract can be extended.
- Termination: Termination is more straightforward than with unlimited contracts, but it still requires compliance with Egyptian labor laws.
- Possible for Full-time & Part-time: Fixed-term contracts are available for both full-time and part-time positions.
