What are the Working Hours and Overtime Rules in Egypt?
In Egypt, working hours are regulated to ensure a balance between productivity and employee well-being. Below is an overview of the standard working hours, overtime conditions, and compensation.
Standard Working Hours
- Daily Limit: Employees work up to 8 hours per day.
- Weekly Limit: The total working hours should not exceed 48 hours per week.
- Maximum Daily Hours: Including overtime, employees cannot work more than 10 hours per day.
Overtime Work
Overtime is permitted only under unusual work exigencies or exceptional conditions that justify the additional hours. Employers must ensure that such situations are properly communicated and agreed upon with employees.
Overtime Compensation

- Daytime Overtime: Paid at 135% of the regular salary.
