What is the probation period in Malaysia?

In Malaysia, while probation is not specifically addressed by law, it is a common practice.

The probation period is used to assess an employee's suitability for the role, but it does not simplify termination. If an employee is terminated during probation, the employer must justify the decision with a valid, objective cause.

The standard probation period lasts between 3 to 6 months, though there is no maximum duration specified by the Labor Code.
