What are the Working Hours and Overtime Rules in Turkey?
Horizons ensures compliance with Turkish labor laws regarding working hours, overtime, and night work to provide a fair and structured working environment.
Standard Working Hours
- Maximum working hours are 45 hours per week and maximum 11 hours per day.
Overtime Rules
- Definition of Overtime: Any work beyond 45 hours per week is considered overtime.
- Maximum Overtime: Employees may not exceed 270 overtime hours per year.
Compensation for Overtime
Overtime must be approved in advance by Horizons in order to be eligible for compensation. Only if approved, the following applies:
For employees with a 45-hour workweek:
- Each overtime hour is compensated at 150% of the hourly salary or 1 hour 30 minutes of paid time off, to be used within 6 months.
For employees with less than a 45-hour workweek:
- Extra hours (work under 45 hours/week but exceeding the contracted hours) are compensated at 125% of the hourly salary or 1 hour 15 minutes of paid time off, to be used within 6 months.
- Overtime hours (above 45 hours/week) are compensated at 150% of the hourly salary or 1 hour 30 minutes of paid time off, to be used within 6 months.
- Work on days off or public holidays: Employees working on a day off or public holiday are entitled to 200% of their daily salary.
