What are the Paid and Unpaid Leaves in Poland?
In Poland, various types of paid leave are available to employees to address personal and family needs. Here’s an overview of the different leave entitlements:
Paid Leave Types
Maternity/Pregnancy/Adoption Leave:
- Duration: 20 weeks, including 2 weeks before birth.
- Compensation: 100% of salary.
- Transfer Option: Up to 14 weeks can be transferred to the other parent.
Paternity Leave:
- Duration: 2 weeks, to be taken within 24 months of the child’s birth.
- Compensation: 100% of salary.
Parental Leave:
- Duration: 41 weeks after maternity leave ends, until the child is 6 years old (43 weeks for twins).
- Compensation: 70% of salary.
- Exclusive Right: Each parent has a right to 9 weeks of parental leave.
Childcare Leave:
- Duration: 36 months until the child is 4 years old.
- Additional Leave: 2 days per year until the child is 14 years old.
Marriage Leave:
- Duration: 2 days.
Child Birth Leave:
- Duration: 2 days.
Bereavement Leave:
- Duration: 1 to 2 days, depending on the closeness of the relationship.
- Specific Cases: 2 days for the death of a child, or for the funeral of a spouse, parent, step-parent; 1 day for the funeral of a sibling, in-laws, or grandparent.
Training Leave:
- Duration: 6 days for external exams; 21 days for a thesis diploma.
Time Off for Force Majeure:
- Duration: 2 days per year.
- Compensation: 50% of salary.
Unpaid Leave
- Carer’s Leave:
- Duration: 5 days per year.
- Purpose: For personal care or support of a relative or someone living in the same household with a serious medical condition.
- Approval: Requires employer’s approval.
