How is overtime regulated in Bangladesh?

In Bangladesh, overtime regulations ensure that employees are fairly compensated for additional hours worked beyond their standard work schedule.

Working Hours Limits

  • Maximum Weekly Hours: Employees can work a maximum of 60 hours per week, including overtime.

  • Average Weekly Hours: Over the course of a whole year, the average number of working hours per week should not exceed 56 hours. This regulation helps in balancing work hours throughout the year.

Overtime Compensation

  • Rate of Payment: Overtime work is compensated at a rate double the employee’s regular total income. This includes the basic salary and any additional payments such as housing and medical allowances.

  • Calculation: When calculating overtime pay, the total income (including fixed allowances) is used to determine the overtime rate. This ensures that all aspects of compensation are considered, providing fair payment for extra hours worked.
